Case Study on Non-Core Banking ERP implementation for Leading Bank in Bangladesh

The Client

Leading Bank in Bangladesh bears a unique history of its own. The organization started its journey in the financial sector of the country as an investment company back in 1985. The aim of the company was to mobilize resources from within and invest them in such way so as to develop country's Industrial and Trade Sector and playing a catalyst role in the formation of capital market as well. Its membership with the browse helped the company to a great extent in these regard. The company operated up to 1992 with 16 branches and thereafter with the permission of the Central Bank converted into a full-fledged private commercial Bank in 1993.

The bank now has 104 branches employing 2,277 people all over the country.

The problem client had

Leading Bank in Bangladesh decided to automate their banking product with own banking software including an ERP to automate banking operations to create value for customers by continuously improving business processes to deliver cost effectively on time, every time. They want the ERP to develop as an extension for i). Core Banking Solution, ii). Card Management Solution, iii). Online Banking Solution, and iv). Mobile Banking Solution. The activities of Bank’s field staff, Agents and Customers providing all banking services on behalf of the Bank with Online and Mobile Banking Solutions should be captured by the ERP Application for the Core Banking Operations.

Challenges

The key to success, however, depended in convert current half automated and half manual systems to a combine in a core system and achieving process efficiencies. The challenges were:

  • Current system was half paper based and half automated. There were no synchronization in two systems.

  • Most of their client based were in paper based based system and when they started to use OpenCBS they did not import those customers to the system and started to keep records in both papers and software.

  • Their core banking module was still under development and online and mobile banking were in planning. So we need to provide a solution to do the integration in future.

  • Standardization of all process as manual/paper based processes.

  • Automate agency operations.

Our solution

We provided JEE, JSP, spring framework, hibernate, apache tomcat server and Oracle 11g based ERP solution for Leading Bank in Bangladesh based on their business process and operations. Main features/modules of the ERP are

  • Human Resource Management (HRM).

  • Customer Relations Management (CRM).

  • Supply Chain/Distribution Management.

  • Financial & Management Accounting.

  • Content Management for Agents/Customers' Businesses.

  • API to integrate with core banking, mobile banking, online banking and card management systems.

Our approach to develop and integrate the system

  • Requirements gathering: We visited Leading Bank in Bangladesh many times, sat with all departments and gather information how they currently operate their operation and how an automated system can help them.

  • System analysis and design: We assigned top level system analysts to analyze their business requirements and convert those to system architecture design.

  • Flow chart drawing: Based on the system architectures we designed flow charts and take approval from Leading Bank in Bangladesh.

  • Phase Wise development and approval from Leading Bank in Bangladesh.
